Farmers and Institutions generally come to collect seedling from the Central Nursery, however, occasionally for a large number of seedlings the Central Nursery can deliver by lorry and the client will contribute to the transport costs. Many farmers arrive by motorbike, locally known as boda boda, others by car and pick-up truck.
Only during the two short ‘dry seasons’ are farmers not encouraged to plant seedlings/saplings (notably June and December). All clients are requested to confirm that they have sufficient land, have prepared the ground and can secure the plants from damage. Client details including names, plot location and phone details are recorded. A cohort of trusted and successful ‘progressive’ farmers are able to provide an ‘extension service’ to new recipients of seedlings, providing vital assistance to our Central Nursery staff to ensure good growth and low mortality rates.
